A Glimpse of Unconditional Love...

 Hello World,

Let's try to make this a thing. I can admit I'm the worst with consistency, but I'm trying to improve that area of my life. Today I wanted to talk about a recent moment that allowed me to see and feel a glimpse of unconditional love. I like to think of myself as someone who has experienced love throughout my life, regardless of the unfortunate events.

However, I can't say that I understood the term unconditional love to its' fullest until recently. As Christians, we always hear of God's unconditional love for us, but when do we ever really experience what it looks and feels like. We are human. We tie our love to conditions whether we like to admit it or not. As long as the person treats me right, I can love them. As long as they don't cross certain boundaries, I can love them. Sometimes, we form these conditions unknowingly.

What about someone who has wronged you? What about someone who mistreated you on purpose? What about someone who is against you in every way? What about someone who disregards your beliefs? What about someone who hurts you over and over? What about someone who has harmed you?

It's not that easy to love these people in our lives. We often avoid being around those people. We create boundaries for them, and we wish them a good life. I mean...who wouldn't for the sake of our sanity. Nevertheless, there are moments in our lives that create an opportunity to who unconditional love. I watched as a mother, who presumed her son was dead, answered the unexpected phone call. I saw how her entire body released that worry as she broke down in tears. I witnessed love flow from her body to her voice and through the phone as she spoke to her lost son. It had been years since she last spoke with him, and people continued to tell her that her son was lost and losing his mind.

She didn't give up hope.

She prayed for her son to come home or at the very least be found for a proper burial. Well, God heard her prayers. Unexpectedly, her opportunity to show unconditional love showed up through a phone call. At first, she didn't recognize the voice on the other line. When she realized it was her son, she signed so deeply that tears rolled down her face. Her voice was shaking from the shock.  I stood there watching this unravel before me, and I felt the love she was giving her son. She spoke with loving and caressing words.  I thought to myself...this must be how God feels when His lost children are lost and decide to come home. In that moment, I understood unconditional love.

Despite all of the hurt, pain, and damage, this mother put all those things aside to show her son pure unconditional love. I had never heard this mother use such tender terms toward her son until that day. I could see God's love through her. I teared up watching such a cinematic moment. I could feel the worry lift off her shoulders. I could feel the tender care she was giving him to comfort him. I could see how happy she was to hear his voice and know that God had listened to the prayers of her heart.

I understood God. I understood His love for us. I understood just how much He truly loves His children. He places everything to the side, when we come home. He embraces us with tender love and care. He doesn't bring up the past. He doesn't hold a grudge. He rejoices to receive a call from us. He rejoices to hear our voices. He rejoices to be able to show us love. What a beautiful glimpse of His unconditional love for you and me.

If you are lost and want to come home, God is waiting for your unexpected call. He's waiting to embrace you. He's ready to demonstrate His unconditional love for you.He hasn't forgotten you. He hasn't abandoned you. He's still waiting on you.  Don't let anything keep you from coming home. Just call on Him and He will be ready to answer.

Sincerely,

Dayse
